American Red Cross partners with St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management for Preparedness Event

ST. LOUIS, MO – In honor of September being National Preparedness Month, the American Red Cross is teaming up with the St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management and other public safety agencies for a Plan, Prepare, and Protectevent. The event will be hosted by the Northside Seventh Day Adventist Church, 9001 Lucas and Hunt Rd., Jennings, 63136 on Friday, September 20 from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

“Preparing for disasters is a team effort,” said Beth Elders, Executive Director, American Red Cross of Greater St. Louis. This is why the Red Cross works closely with community partners and emergency management officials to promote preparedness within the community.” Through events such as these, we hope to educate people on how to stay safe and connected when faced with an emergency,” Elders added.

Red Cross will present Be Red Cross Ready: Winter Storm. This presentation talks about the difference between watches and warnings and how to prepare for these different weather events. The Red Cross Emergency app will be highlighted. Designed with accessibility in mind, this app provides preparedness information as well as guidance for during and after a disaster. With winter right around the corner, fire safety will also be covered as the risk for home fires increases during the cold weather months.

St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management officials will share important insights into emergency preparedness at the upcoming event. The discussion will highlight the importance of engaging in preparedness conversations with family members to create personalized plans that cater to each family’s specific needs and adjust plans based on the type of disaster. Attendees will also learn about essential items to include in an emergency kit, ways to stay connected to family members in the event of a disaster, and how to access reliable information and updates during emergencies.

Other participants at the event providing information and presentations include the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Southeast Behavioral Hospital.
