Katharina “Henrietta” Stallman, 102, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 5:05 am, Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Three Springs Senior Living and Rehabilitation, Chester, Illinois.
She was born to the late Martin and Clara (nee Pick) Beck on August 1, 1922 in Pinckneyville, Illinois.
Henrietta married Paul Christian Stallman on April 18, 1943 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tampa, Florida; he preceded her in death on February 28, 2005.
After Paul returned from his military service, they made their home on the Stallman family farm in rural Chester. After many years of working with her husband on the dairy, poultry and grain farm,
Henrietta worked for 40 years with their oldest son at Stallman Hardware in Chester. After her retirement, she moved to The Manor at Craig Farm where she enjoyed many hours of playing Wii Bowling, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading and taking care of the many flowering plants that decorate The Manor. Many of the area’s senior citizens will also remember her helping to serve meals at the Chester Nutrition Site.
Henrietta was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester for 79 years where she had been very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) for 62 years serving as President three times. She was chairman of the league’s egg dying activity for over 55 years. She originated the church’s Apple Butter Cooking project overseeing it for 35 years.
Henrietta was also a member of the PTL while her sons attended St. John Lutheran School and was a church choir member for 55 years, singing with her husband and all three of her sons. She enjoyed quilting with the ladies of St. John and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3553 Auxiliary in Chester.
