SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has reached a significant milestone in Southern Illinois, with over 6,000 children now enrolled in the program. This exciting achievement marks a major step forward in promoting early childhood literacy in the region. The first set of books was delivered to these young readers last week, sparking excitement and joy among children and their families.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a renowned program that provides free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of family income. By mailing carefully selected books directly to their homes, the program aims to foster a love of reading and learning during the critical early years of a child’s development.
“We are thrilled to see the overwhelming response from families in Southern Illinois,” said Byram Fager of Read SI and CoCiovener of Coordinator for the Southern Illinois affiliate of the Imagination Library. “Reaching over 6,000 children is a testament to the community’s commitment to nurturing a love of reading and supporting the educational growth of our youngest learners.”
The first books received last week were age-appropriate selections that cater to different developmental stages, ensuring that each child gets a book suited to their age and interests. Parents and caregivers have expressed their excitement, with many sharing heartwarming stories of their children eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new books.
One parent shared, “When my daughter opened her first book from the Imagination Library, her eyes lit up with excitement. It’s such a wonderful gift, and we are so grateful for this program.”
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library has grown into one of the largest literacy programs in the world, and its success in Southern Illinois is expected to continue expanding as more families enroll. The program, made possible through local partnerships, community support, and generous donations, aims to inspire a lifelong love of reading and improve school readiness for thousands of children in the region.
