ST. MARY – Highway 61 and Sycamore Street are now open for local traffic only in St. Mary.
However, Mayor Adam Christopher says no vehicles of commercial weight are allowed on either street..
“Signs are posted and there will be new ones on both ends of the street. Any company or delivery service causing damage will be responsible for repairs,” he said Thursday.
He added that the contractor, Jokerst Inc., has finished most of the main projects and (left) some rough spots in town and will be back to finish a couple of spots.
“The public works department will be handling the smaller jobs and prep. Repairs were made to the worst streets, which will save over $100,000 plus in the long term, as well as water diversion. Also, I am working on a grant for a pavement roadway infrastructure grant that is funded up to $500,000, which will, in turn, do most of the overlay on many streets in the future.”
Again, only emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed in the area of Highway 61 and Sycamore and the road is widened now on Sycamore to Fourth for a quicker response time to the north side of town, creating two emergency services routes if needed and to one of our landing zones for Air Evac helicopter needs.
