Firefighters respond to Market Street house fire

STE. GENEVIEVE – A Labor Day afternoon fire caused considerable damage to a wood frame home in the 800 block of Market Street in Ste. Genevieve.

Ste. Genevieve Fire Chief Kenny Steiger said the department was dispatched for a structure fire at 12:57 p.m.

The first fire officer arrived at 1 p.m. reporting heavy fire from the side of the building and throughout the rest of the house.

The house had several additions that made voids allowing rapid fire spread to other parts of the building. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and crews remained on the scene until 3 p.m. overhauling the building and for fire investigation.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an accidental cooking fire.

There were no injuries.

Ste Genevieve Fire was assisted by the Zell Fire Dept., St Mary Fire Dept., Ste Genevieve County Ambulance and Ste Genevieve Police Dept.
