FARMINGTON – The September Women’s Connection Brunch will be 9:15-11 a.m., Tuesday, September 10th in the Fellowship Hall of the Farmington Presbyterian Church, 403 W. Columbia will have Donna Hickman as a special guest speaker.
She works for 8th District Congressman Jason Smith, and will explain how people in the 8th district can seek help with federal agencies through their Congressman. Donna is the Farmington District Office Director and Service Academy Coordinator for Congressman Smith. In her role, she represents him at meetings and events in the district. She also assists people in the district who may have personal issues with federal agencies involving their tax returns, Social Security or veterans’ benefits, passports or other federal matters.
She will explain how people can seek the congressman’s help with their questions and how he seeks answers from the agencies involved. Donna is a former writer for the Daily Journal and Executive Director of the United Way of St. Francois County.
Our Guest Speaker, Dr. Phillis Dewitt of South Pekin, Ill. will address the topic: “A Hero That Rescues”.
As a former foster child. Phillis found herself in many situations when she needed a hero in her life. As an emancipated minor, she found many challenges of learning to live on her own as a teen. Come learn more about her hero and how she was rescued time and again, and now shares how her pain was turned into purpose and passion.
She became a foster parent to over 100 children, was widowed at an early age with five children still at home and later remarried as a mom of 13 children.
Phillis has a Ph.D in nursing and is a board-certified clinical nurse specialist and a board certified family nurse practitioner. She teaches graduate nursing programs at several universities, provides medical care internally for vulnerable persons, serves on the board of directors for the Illinois 10th Judicial Court CASA, and works with victims of trauma and abuse. She has even published a book: “I’m Still Standing: How God Turned My Pain into Purpose”.
