A funeral will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 for 91-year-old Dorothy M. Korando of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 10:12 am, Monday, August 12, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, Illinois.
She was born February 6, 1933 in Steeleville, Illinois to John F. and Lela (nee McFadden) Westerman, Who both preceded her in death.
Dorothy married Kenneth L. Korando on September 16, 1950 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Rectory, Chester, Illinois; he preceded her in death on January 6. 2007.
She is survived by a son: Ronald Korando of Chester, IL; a daughter: Susan (Michael) Siegfried of Chester, Il, two sisters-in-law: Arlene Westerman of Ellis Grove, IL and Gennine Westerman of Ellis Grove, Il., grandchildren: Jamison Korando, Julie (Tim) Jones, Joseph (Jamie) Korando, Beth (Doug) Little, Andrew Siegfried, and Curtis Siegfried; great grandchildren: Rhiannon Korando, Natalie and Colin Korando, Dominic Little, Mason Jones and Oliver Siegfried; a great-great grandson and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
She was also preceded in death by a son: Gene Korando; an infant daughter: Karen Sue Korando, a daughter-in-law: Luanne Korando, and two brothers: Jack Westerman and Marvin Westerman.
Dorothy had worked as a bookkeeper and helped manage the family farm in Chester.
She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Chester, Illinois.
Dorothy enjoyed working outside in her yard, tending to her garden and flowers, and taking care of her chickens.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, a strong wonderful mother, and a loving caring grandmother. She was an example of faithfulness to family, friends and God.
She navigated through disappointments and loss with her head up and truly made a difference in the lives of those who loved her.
Dorothy motivated everyone around her to be a better person. Her strength, integrity and diligence in every task she undertook will be remembered by those she leaves behind.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, Illinois and 10-11 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, in Chester, Illinois.
A funeral mass for 91-year-old Dorothy M. Korando of Chester, Illinois, will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 16, 2024 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Chester, Illinois. Father Sebastian Ukoh will officiate.
Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chester, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School.
