Jimmy L. Proffer Sr.

The Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester has announced the passing of 76-year-old Jimmy L. Proffer, Sr., of Chester, Illinois, at 9:20 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri. 

 
He was born September 24, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, son of Troy and Rosalie (nee Bollinger) Proffer who both preceded him in death.

Jimmy married Glenda Easton on August 3, 1974 in Chester, Illinois; she survives.


He is also survived by three children: Julie Proffer (Tim Hadler) of Crosstown, Mo., Jimmy Proffer Jr. of Perryville, Mo. and Christy (Dave) Cook of Granite City, Ill.; three siblings: Wanda (Frank) Garland of Sedgewickville, Mo., Carolyn Hebrock of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Lisa Bowen of Jackson, Mo.;

nine grandchildren: Dillan Smith, Meghan (Jason) McDonough, Haley (Brandon) Newell, Nathan (Allena) Proffer, Mychael Thompson, Brayden Cook, Tyler Cook, Mitchell Isom and Will Isom; five great grandchildren: Waylon, Josie, Lane, Kaidyn and Oliver and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


He was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Ebert Bowen and Tex Hebrock, a niece: Jennifer Garland and a nephew: Chad Michael Garland.

 

He had worked as a delivery truck driver for Bunny Bread for 31 years.


Jimmy was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 103 in Millersville, Mo. and a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 3553 in Chester, Ill.

 

He enjoyed reading, playing cards with his buddies and spending time with his family.

 

He was a United States Air Force Veteran and served in the Vietnam War.


It was Jimmy’s wish to be cremated.


Memorials may be made in Jimmy’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House or Shriner’s Children Hospital and are being accepted at Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester.
