$85,000 for Missouri storytelling project in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council announces $85,000 funding for Storytelling Project in the state of Missouri. The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council (MODDC) has approved $85,000 to fund an 18-month project, beginning in October 2024.

The grantee will write a story centered on a person with an intellectual or developmental disability or a family member, in each of Missouri’s 114 Counties and St. Louis City. By allowing people the platform to share their stories we open the door to direct connection as to why a certain issue needs to be considered. Stories play a pivotal role in people’s emotions creating very important connections to issues for our state’s decision-makers.

MODDC recognizes the importance of stories to impact systems change. Missouri laws and policies need to consider the disproportionate barriers they may present to people with disabilities. MODDC is launching this storytelling project to center on the lived experience of Missourians with I/DD and their families. These stories will engage readers in understanding the daily life and systemic barriers faced by individuals with I/DD.

All interested applicants must attend a Q&A Webinar on Wednesday, August 7th at 2pm CST. All participants register at bitl.ly/StorytellingMODDC. Participants must submit questions for the webinar in advance, via email to moddc@moddcouncil.org (Attention: Leigh Anne Haun) by July 31, 2024, at 5pm.
