Rotary Club to add special 25th anniversary duck race

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Rotary Club of Sainte Genevieve is excited to announce a special addition to the annual Duck Races during the weekend of the Jour de Fete festival.

“To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Duck Races, we’re going to have a ‘Winner-Take-All,’ seventh race at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11th,” said Rotary President Josh Wright. “Qualifying ducks will be those ducks who placed in the top eight spots of the six scheduled races. These 48 ducks will race for a $250.00 anniversary cash prize. No extra purchases are necessary to enter the anniversary race, your duck just needs to be a qualifier.”

In addition to the cash payout, Wright explained that the winning duck will be retired from competition, mounted on a plaque, and presented to the owner at a Rotary Luncheon.

Because only qualifying ducks are eligible to race, it is possible that a first place duck from a previous race wins the anniversary race and nets a $400.00 payout.

Attending any of the races is not mandatory, and a posting of all winning ducks will be on display at the Rotary ticket booth under the railroad trestle at South Gabouri and Main throughout the weekend.

“The Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club, now in its 51st year, uses fundraising events like the duck races, to fund community service projects locally and around the world as well as providing scholarships to our local schools. We’re excited to have this special anniversary race this year and appreciate the support of the Ste. Genevieve Community.” said Wright.

Duck Race Tickets for the six scheduled races will be sold at Country Mart on Friday, July 26th and again on Saturday, July 27th. Tickets may also be purchased at MRV Bank, Bloomsdale Bank, and from any Rotarian. On the days of the event, tickets will also be sold right up to any scheduled race.

Ticket prices are nearly what they were 25 years ago, $2.00 for a single ticket or a “6-quack” for $10.
