Randolph County sheriff reports arrest

CHESTER — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 26 – year – old Grant Lee Jones Schilling of Sparta, Illinois.

 

 

The sheriff said Schilling was arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred February 16, 2024, along Illinois State Route 154 near Lessley Cemetery in rural Randolph County.

 

Randolph County Deputies were notified by a tow truck driver with M&C Towing of Red Bud about some suspicious damage done to the vehicle while it had been stranded and unoccupied due to the winter storm. When Deputies arrived on scene, they noticed that the vehicle was missing some parts, as well as some damage that had been done to the vehicle.

 

Witness statements and cell phone records led investigators to Schilling’s involvement. At the culmination of the investigation, arrest warrants for Schilling were issued on burglary and criminal damage to property charges.

 

On Thursday, June 27th, 2024, officers with the Sparta Police Department arrested Schilling on the warrants without incident.

 

Schilling was transported to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and processed.

 

On Friday, June 28th Schilling was released per conditions of the pre-trial release act.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
