Changes in assessing procedures for accessory structures explained

CHESTER – The Randolph County Assessor’s Office has issued the following statement regarding changes in assessing procedures for accessory structures.

“This statement is to clear up confusion on assessing procedures for accessory structures. Changes will be effective January 1, 2025.

“Any accessory buildings built after this date, over 200 sq ft, will be assessed as real property. Any accessory buildings equipped with electricity and/or plumbing will be assessed as real property regardless of size. These accessory buildings include but are NOT limited to: shipping containers, sheds, decks, patios and carports. Structures built prior to January 1, 2025 are NOT subject to these rules.”

“This new information will hopefully resolve any concerns or confusion from the original post regarding these assessing procedures.”
