A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 for 85-year-old avid Edward Fitzgerald of Sainte Genevieve, Mo., formerly of Palm Beach County, Fla. and Jefferson County, Mo. who passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at his home in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.
He was born August 1, 1938 in Lynn, Mass., a son to Edward Fitzgerald and Gertrude Fitzgerald Baxendale who both preceded him in death.
He married Barbara (Unterreiner) Fitzgerald April 20, 1974. She survives in Ste. Genevieve.
He is also survived by two sons: Brian Fitzgerald and Sean Fitzgerald; a daughter: Heather (John) McCarthy; a brother: John Fitzgerald; a nephew and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son in infancy: Scott Fitzgerald; and a grandson: Ryan Corriveau.
He was a member and Journeyman electrician of IBEW Union, Local 103 Boston, MA. As an IBEW electrician he had the opportunity to work and travel in many states, working on power houses, chemical plants and other industrial sites.
David was a member of the Volunteer Yacht Club in Lynn, Mass., Harlequin Theatre Group Wellington, Fla. and Wellington Chamber of Commerce. David Sponsored a “Sea Scouts” group in Wellington, Fla.
David loved books and reading. His library contains hundreds of books on history, biographies, and WW II. David also did a lot of writing, and some of it was especially for Barbara. She treasures those letters and poems. Sailboats were his passion. He and Barbara sailed their beloved old Morgan in New England and Southeast Florida, where it was finally docked at Key Largo.
As a New Englander, David greatly enjoyed snow skiing. He and Barbara skied mostly in the Rocky Mountains. David and Barbara loved to travel, camp and RV across 49 states numerous times including Alaska. The highlight of their travels was Canada.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve.
