Karen Minnette Ramsey

A celebration for life will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 for 77-year-old Karen Minnette Ramsey of Cedar Park, Texas, who passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

 

Karen was born April 26, 1946 in East St. Louis, Ill. to William “Bill” and Minnette (nee Bergmire) Woods who both preceded her in death.

 

She is survived by two sons: Scott Ramsey of Cedar Park, Tex and Brian Ramsey of Cedar Park, Tex.; two grandchildren: Jackson and Madilyn Ramsey of Cedar Park, Tex.; three sisters: Linda (David) Weiner of St. Louis, Mo., Nancy (John) Youngerman of St. Charles, Mo. and Diane (Tom) Gross of Red Bud, Ill.; a brother: Roger (Cynthia) Woods of St. Charles, Mo.; her former husband: John Ramsey of Houston, Tex.; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

She was also preceded in death by: a brother: William (Shirley) Woods, in-laws: Charles and Ora Ramsey, and a sister-in-law: Cynthia Ramsey

 

Karen grew up in Belleville, Illinois spending time with her family, friends, and school activities.

 

Karen attended Signal Hill School and Belleville Township High School (West) in Belleville Illinois.

 

After high school, Karen attended Belleville Junior College and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville completing her master’s degree.

 

Karen had fond memories of growing up in Belleville. She was a high school majorette, worked on the school yearbook, and played the clarinet. She learned to play piano, which was a hobby she continued throughout her life. Karen had many lifelong friends from elementary school, high school, college, and work whom she loved to spend time with.

 

Karen was a passionate and inspirational guidance counselor and educator for over 40 years in Southern Illinois and Texas. She spent most of her career working at Red Bud Elementary in Red Bud, Illinois, and Sneed Elementary in Houston, Texas.

 

Karen had many lifelong friends from elementary school, high school, college, and work whom she loved to spend time with. She enjoyed all holidays (and the cooking and food) with her parents, brothers, sisters, parents, aunts and uncles throughout her life. Later in life, she applied her love of the holidays to the creation of handmade seasonal wreaths.

 

Karen loved to travel. She traveled to New Orleans many times and loved to take river cruises at various locations throughout the United States. One of her favorite trips was a trip to Hawaii with her grandchildren.

 

A Celebration of Life Gathering for 77-year-old Karen Minnette Ramsey will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Red Bud, Ill.
