Mississippi River remains below flood stage

CHESTER – The Mississippi River remained below flood stage Thursday morning, falling to 24.88 feet on the Chester gage.

It was forecast to fall to 23.8 Friday, 22.9 Saturday, 22.6 Sunday, then rise to 23.0 Monday and 23.6 Tuesday.

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill. There has been no announcement regarding the ferry returning to service.

The high water also forced construction of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge to be halted.
