Mississippi River remains above flood stage

CHESTER – The Mississippi River remained above flood stage Sunday.

The river was at 28.48 Sunday morning, 1.48 feet above the 27.0 flood stage.

It was forecast to fall to 27.8 this morning, then fall below flood stage to 26.8 Tuesday, 25.8 Wednesday, 25.1 Thursday and 24.5 Friday.

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill.

It has also forced the construction of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge to be halted.
