Bloomsdale Elementary kindergarten class publishes book

STE. GENEVIEVE – Recently, Ashley Gettinger’s kindergarten class at Bloomsdale Elementary had the opportunity to see its writings come to life through the publication of a picture book.

It all began when Ms. Gettinger talked with her class about the writing process—brainstorming ideas, writing a draft, illustrating a visual to accompany the text—and the students were excited to get started!

The prompt for the class was, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Each student thought hard about what they wanted to be, and began creating their own page for the book. The class also held a cover art contest and voted for part of Grady Rapp’s cover and part of Kyler Mikesch’s cover— so they combined both pieces of art for the cover of the book.

Once each student was finished with their page, Ms. Gettinger sent their work to Student Treasures, which then published the finished book.

When the class received a copy, they held a celebration and read the book together!
