Mississippi River remains above flood stage

CHESTER – The Mississippi River remained above flood stage Thursday

The river was at 28.21 Thursday morning, 1.21 feet above the 27.0 flood stage.

It was forecast to rise to 28.5 this morning, then rise to 28.9 Saturday, 29.0 Sunday and then fall to 28.4 Monday and fall again to 27.1 Tuesday.

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill.

It has also forced the construction of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge to be halted.
