Margaret ‘Marge’ Ann Abell

A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 for 88-year-old Margaret “Marge” Ann Abell of Evansville, Ill., who passed away at 2:37 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024 at her daughter’s home.

 

She was born March 2, 1936 in Equality, Ill. to Louis and Catherine (nee Schmitt) Spahr.

 

Marge married William “Bill” J. Abell February 9, 1954 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Pond Settlement, Illinois; he preceded her in death on December 26, 1997. 

 

She is survived by six children: Debbie (Don) Birke of Evansville, Ill., Nancy Schilling of Evansville, Ill., Cindy (Dennis) Galle of Marissa, Ill., Lucy (Jim) Vasquez of Lenzburg, Ill., Linda Lesperance of Steeleville, Ill., and Terry Abell of Milton, Penn.; two sisters in law: Martha Spahr of Carmi, Ill. and

Janet O’Leary of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers-in-law: Raymond (Marge) Abell Napoleon, Ohio and David (Linda) Abell of Pana, Ill.; 17 grandchildren: Cheri (Lonnie) Cleveland, Kelly (Jheri) Riedel, Paula (Jorge) Garcia, Roxanna (Tyson Kocian) Mines, Ryan (Jenna) Schilling, Sarah (Brett) Moore, Clinton (Carleigh) Galle, Victoria (Justin) Gale, Jonn Vasquez, Jamie (Jake) Hurst, Chelsea (Keith) DeMange, Jenny (Jarod) Hulling, Myssie (Josh) Pillers, Leslie (Aaron) Gremmels, Marcea (Dane) Walter, Chole Abell, and Lexy (Brent) Gundrum; 27 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Danny Schilling; a grandson: Louis Galle, a grandson-in-law: Jason Mines, two brothers: William “Bill” Spahr and James “Bob” (Dorothy) Spahr, her in-laws: James and Leona Abell; two brothers-in-law: Mike Abell and Pat O’Leary and five sisters-in-law: Joann (Bob) Hays, Doris (Jim) Pickering, Donna (Ralph) Koester, Mary Ellen (Richard) Neumann, and Rita Armstrong.

 

She had been a homemaker and also had worked at Singer Furnace Factory in Red Bud, Ill.

 

She also worked with her husband, Bill, at Abell Woodworking. 

 

Marge was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, Ill. and the American Legion Auxiliary in Evansville, Ill.. She loved working in her garden. Marge was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed sewing and going to dances.

 

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, Ill.

 

A funeral mass for 88-year-old Margaret “Marge” Ann Abell of Evansville, Ill., will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, Ill. Officiating: Fr. Iuvenius Iheme and Fr. Steven Pautler.

 

Interment will be in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Evansville, Ill.
