Abortion Action Missouri announces endorsements for state senate

ST. LOUIS – On Tuesday May 14th, Abortion Action Missouri announced its endorsement of the following candidates for State Senate;

Rep. Patty Lewis, Senate District 7
Sen. Barbara Anne Washington, Senate District 9
Joe Pereles, Senate District 15
Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern, Senate District 17
Stephen Webber, Senate District 19
Matt Williams, Senate District 23

Executive Director Mallory Schwarz said, “These candidates have proven to Abortion Action Missouri and our members that they are prepared to fight for a future of reproductive freedom for all Missourians. We have an opportunity to make transformative change this year, and with these leaders, I believe we can build a Missouri that works for all.”

Said Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern, candidate for Senate District 17, “I’m proud to be a pro-choice candidate and I look forward to restoring access to safe, affordable reproductive healthcare in the Missouri Senate.”

“Right now, Districts 15 and 19 are held by anti-abortion extremists and are top targets for Abortion Action Missouri,” said Schwarz. “This year Missourians will vote to overturn the dangerous ban on abortion, and after the people establish the right to reproductive freedom we will need elected leaders like Joe Pereles and Stephen Webber who will respect and defend the will of the voters,” continued Schwarz.

Said Joe Pereles, “All Missourians should be free to make their own healthcare decisions. I am proud to support the campaign to end Missouri’s extreme abortion ban and restore the right to choose.  Together, we can end the ban, bring common sense back to the legislature and make real change for all Missourians.”

“Polls show 2/3 of Boone County voters are ready to overturn Missouri’s extreme abortion ban.  I’m excited to work with Abortion Action Missouri to flip Boone County blue, restore abortion rights, and make 2024 the most pro-choice year in Missouri history!” said Stephen Webber.

Abortion Action Missouri also made an early endorsement in the race for Kansas City’s 7th District, vacated by Sen. Greg Razer. “Representative Lewis has been a tireless advocate for abortion rights in Jefferson City. Her lived experience as an RN brings a crucial provider perspective to the legislature,” said Mallory Schwarz. Rep. Patty Lewis (D-Kansas City) added, “As the only registered nurse in the General Assembly, I’ve been a champion for reproductive health care, including access to safe, legal abortion and contraception—I look forward to continuing that work in the Missouri Senate.”
