Mississippi River likely to fall below flood stage Wednesday

CHESTER – The Mississippi River was still above flood stage Monday, but the forecast calls for the river to fall below flood stage Wednesday.

 

The river was at 29.98 feet Monday morning, 2.98 feet above the 27-foot flood stage.

 

It was forecast to fall to 28.5 Tuesday, 26.9 Wednesday, 25.9 Thursday and 25.4 Friday and remain at 25.4 Saturday..

 

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill.
