Mayor Keim recognizes two firefighters, SGCMH

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve Mayor Brian Keim recognized two members of the Ste. Genevieve Volunteer Fire Department Thursday during the regular meeting of the board of aldermen.

 

 

Appreciation awards were presented to Bob Bonnell and Charlie Wibbenmeyer for their services to the fire department.

 

 

Mayor Keim also presented a “Hospital Week Proclamation for its 55th Anniversary” to representatives of Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital.

 

City Administrator Happy Welch reported city staff has been working with insurance broker Lakenan Insurance to get rates for liability and casualty as it renews July 1.

 

Welch also reported the levee district will be voting on an agreement Tuesday, May 14, with the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service to begin the process to donated 179 acres on the east side of the levee. The federal government will begin its due diligence process after signing off on this agreement that will eventually bring that area into the middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge for eventual improvements spearheaded by the Fish and Wildlife Service.

 

Welch said he submitted the TAP grant application for the South Fourth Street Sidewalk Extension from north of St. Joseph Street to Rozier Street. Results of the application will not be announced until June or July. There are more requests for funds than funds available this year.

 

Welch also reported that no date has been set for the North Fourth Street improvements. He said a pre-construction meeting would be held first with Jokerst Paving and Cochran. Construction would not begin until after school is out.

 

The board held a public hearing on a request from Dan Carver to open a financial services office in a residence at 658 Rozier Street in a single family residential district.

 

Resolution 2024-27 was approved as part of the consent agenda. It declares the K-9 vehicle and additional equipment to be surplus property and disposed of.

 

Three measures were on the agenda under “old business”:

 

Bill No. 4617 amends the city purchasing and competitive bidding policy, passed 7-0 with one alderman (Joe Prince) absent.

 

Bill No. 4618 amends the city cemetery rules, passed 7-0-1.

 

Bill No. 4619 allows the mayor to enter in an agreement with the County of Ste. Genevieve for collection of city taxes, passed 7-0-1.

 

The aldermen set the upper limit for bids for a dump truck for public works department at $155,000.

Bill No. 4620 approves a special use permit to allow Dan Carver to open a financial services office in a residence at 658 Rozier Street in a single family residential district. It was given first-round approval.

 

Bill No. 4621 approves an agreement with the Ste. Genevieve County School District R-II to share construction costs for water main improvements on Maple Drive from Ninth Street to Virginia Street. It was given first-round approval.
