WIC income guidelines for 2024-2025 released

STE. GENEVIEVE – New income guidelines have been released for the Women’s, Infants and Children Health Promotion and Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children or WIC.

Good nutrition helps provide the best possible start in life and is a necessary ingredient for moms and their children to grow healthy and strong.

Missouri’s WIC nutrition program wants to help:

  • Women who are pregnant, in postpartum (pregnancy ended less than six months ago) or breastfeeding
  • Infants under 12 months old
  • Children under 5 years of age

To be eligible in Missouri, you must:

  • Be a resident of Missouri
  • Meet income guidelines (see below guidelines)
  • Have a nutritional risk

(Or be covered on a government program such as Medicaid, TANF or Food Stamps (in most cases))

Benefits of WIC provided at no cost include:  Nutrition education and guidance for moms and children, breastfeeding education and support, breast pumps, and nutritious foods that can be purchased with an electronic debit card.  These foods consist of fruits and vegetables (fresh and frozen), baby food, milk substitutes (cheese, soymilk, yogurt and tofu if criteria is met), cereals and much more.   Referrals for healthcare and resources in the community are also provided.

A breastfeeding peer counselor is available at the Health Department to work with women who desire to breastfeed or who are currently breastfeeding.  Assistance with problems and concerns help moms achieve her breastfeeding goals.

To see if you qualify for the WIC program or to make an appointment, please call the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department at 573-883-7411.
