Mississippi River continues a slow decline

CHESTER – The Mississippi River is falling slowly on the Chester gage.

It was at 29.12 yesterday, down slightly from Sunday’s reading.

It was expected to fall to 29.1 feet today, then down to 28.8 Wednesday, fall to 28.1 Thursday and fall to 27.2 Friday.

The river is expected to fall below the 27.0 foot flood stage Friday when it drops to 26.7, three-tenths of a foot below flood stage.

The high water has idled the Ste. Genevieve Modoc Ferry which has suspended service.
