ST. LOUIS — The National Weather Service in St. Louis reports the Mississippi River is officially in flood.

The river rose to 30.38 on the Chester gage Thursday morning, 3.38 feet above the 27-foot flood stage.
It was expected to continue rising to 31.5 this morning, then fall to 31.2 tomorrow morning, 29.1 Sunday and then down to 27.1 Monday and below the 27.0 flood stage on Tuesday at 26.5..
At this time the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry has suspended operations, the Degognia Fountain Bluff Levee gates are closed and unprotected farmland on the right bank has begun to flood.
At 28 feet, unleveed islands near Chester and the prison farm floods.
At 31.5 feet: in Perry County Route E is closed between County Road 322 and Levee Road (County Road 354) at Bois Brule Creek.
