Mississippi River is officially above flood stage

ST. LOUIS — The National Weather Service in St. Louis reports the Mississippi River is officially in flood.

 

The river rose to 28.29 on the Chester gage Wednesday morning, 1.29 feet above the 27-foot flood stage.

 

It was expected to continue rising to 31.0 this morning, 32.1 tomorrow morning, 32.2 Saturday and then down to 30.6 Sunday and the 27.0 or flood stage on Monday.

 

At this time the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry has suspended operations, the Degognia Fountain Bluff Levee gates are closed and unprotected farmland on the right bank has begun to flood.

 

At 28 feet: unleveed islands near Chester and the prison farm floods.

 

At 31.5 feet: in Perry County: Route E is closed between County Road 322 and Levee Road (County Road 354) at Bois Brule Creek.
