St. John Lutheran Church marks 175th year

CHESTER — St. John Lutheran Church and School in Chester will kick off its 175th Anniversary celebration this coming weekend, April 21/22.

 

The theme for the year-long celebration is “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

 

 

Rev. Peter Ill will be the guest preacher at all three services which include Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 7:45 and 10:00 a.m.

 

Pastor Peter Ill was blessed to serve at St. John following his ordination on August 1, 2010.

He is a Michigan native, and a graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.

 

He has been happily married to Carrie since July 1, 2006. After serving at St. John for four years, he has served at Trinity Lutheran in Millstadt, Illinois since October 2014.

 

Following the 10 a.m. service a celebratory dinner along with anniversary cake will be served in the St. John Veteran’s Memorial Parish Hall.

 

A short program will follow featuring the theme of the year’s anniversary and with the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” being sung by the Hall Family.

 

Currently, Rev.Timothy Sims is the Pastor of St. John’s with the congregation being blessed with his dedicated leadership since 2015.

 

Pastor Sims will be guiding the congregation with monthly themes during the anniversary year.

St. John’s Founder’s Day is April 22, 1949.
