City: Roundabout is no place for political, fish fry or even graduate salute signs

PERRYVILLE — A ban on political signs on the city-owned roundabout at Main Street and Highway 61 in Perryville, has already expanded to church fish fry signs and may now expand again to signs honoring members of the graduating Classes of 2024 at local high schools.

According to remarks by Perryville City Administrator Brent Buerck in the agenda for Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting, the roundabout became a popular location for political signs during the recent election cycle. City staffers took exception and asked that the campaign signs be removed. The city was then asked to remove the fish fry signs posted by churches during the Lenten season.

Now a request from the local newspaper to post signs honoring the local high school graduates on the roundabout has apparently been nixed as well.

The matter is expected to go before the city’s board of aldermen at its Tuesday night meeting. The meeting is open to the public and does include a section for public comment.

The complete agenda for the meeting has been posted in today’s edition of the Sun Times News Online:
