CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – April is National Volunteer Month, and Voices for Children/CASA and United Way of Southeast Missouri are co-sponsoring a Volunteer Fair on April 11 from 11a.m.-2p.m. at the JC Penney court of the West Park Mall.
Anyone interested in long- and short-term volunteer opportunities or just wanting to learn more about various organizations is invited to drop in to visit. At this point 14 organizations have committed to being present. In addition to the sponsoring organizations, Voices for Children/CASA and United Way of Southeast Missouri, these include Read to Succeed, Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Community Partnership, The American Red Cross, Lutheran Family and Children’s Services, SEMO Pets, PFLAG, Crown Hospice, SEMO Food Bank, Cape Tigers Athletics, and the Missouri Veterans Home.
According to Mark Hotop, Senior Volunteer Coordinator for Voices for Children/CASA, “We did this last year around Martin Luther King Day and had a very good turnout. This year we decided to try it in the spring at a more central location. We know there are many people who want to get involved, and this gives them an easy opportunity to learn about a wide variety of organizations on their lunch break.”
The event is free and open to the public; no registration is required. Organizations wishing to participate may still register through April 5 by contacting Mark Hotop at mhotop@casasemo.org.
