Firefighters battled wildfire in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness

ROLLA, Mo. —U.S. Forest Service fire fighters were building containment lines around a wildfire in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness off Highway CC east of Dora, Mo. near the North Fork Recreation Area Saturday.

 

The wildfire was expected to be contained Saturday night. While containment was expected Saturday night, fire fighting operations in the area continued into Sunday to ensure the fire stays contained, so trails in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness remain closed.

 

Please avoid the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness for your safety as well as for fire fighter safety.

The fire was first reported earlier Saturday and U.S. Forest Service fire fighters immediately responded to the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness off Highway CC east of Dora, Missouri near the North Fork Recreation Area.
