Ste. Genevieve FFA members awarded State Degrees

STE. GENEVIEVE – Three members of the Ste. Genevieve FFA will be receiving their State FFA Degree in April at the Missouri State FFA Convention.

 

 

Scarlett Gonz is the daughter of Albert and Jackie Gonz. She has served as the chapter vice-president and reporter. She has participated in ag sales, horse judging, livestock judging, farm management, dairy cattle, FFA creed, and public speaking contests. Scarlett’s SAE consists of raising goats, pigs, and cattle, as well as working at a local veterinarian’s office.

 

Scarlett’s future plans are to attend Murray State University in Kentucky, to major in veterinary science.

 

 

Sara Schmieder is the daughter of Scott and Judy Schmieder. She has served as chapter president, vice president, and reporter as well as Area 15 secretary. She has participated in ag sales, livestock judging, farm management, and grassland evaluation. Sara’s SAE consists of raising market hogs, chickens and goats, and working for a local florist.

 

Sara’s future plans are to attend Mineral Area College to major in nursing.

 

 

Jon Merklin is the son of Joe and Stephanie Merklin. He is currently serving has chapter treasurer. He has participated in grassland evaluation, agronomy, nursery and landscape contests. Jon’s SAE consists of raising cattle and goats and working at Hayden Machinery.

 

Jon’s future plans include interning at Rudd Equipment.

 

Each of the state degree recipients is a four year member of the Ste. Genevieve FFA Chapter.

 

Earlier the three were among Ste. Genevieve FFA members who paticipated in the Area 15 FFA Proficiency Screening.

 

Gonz came in first in goat production, Schmieder came in first in diversified horticulture and Merklin came in second in ag mechanics repair and maintenance placement.

 

Several other members of the Ste. Genevieve FFA also participated in the proficiency screening.

 

 

First place finishers:

Wyatt Palmer in ag services, Allison McCroy in equine placement, Nicholas Capps in forest management, Alysa Beckermann in specialty crop, and Ryder Keyser in vegetable production.

 

Second place:

Merklin in ag mechanics repair and maintenance placement, Zachary Flieg in ag mechanics design and fabrication, Evan Naeger in ag mechanics repair and maintenance entrepreneurship, Sophia Fritsch in ag sales and entrepreneurship, Aiden Roth in diversified crop production placement, Schmieder in swine production entrepreneurship, Evan Kemper in turf grass management, Gonz in veterinary science, and Jacob Sulser in wildlife management.

 

Third place:

Seth Fischer in beef production placement, Libby Adams in outdoor recreation and Mariah Abt in small animal production.

 

Fourth place:

Lily Fahnestock in food services and Heidi Schmelzle in poultry production.
