CHS recognized 3 YellowJacket Basketball players, 3 Lady Jacket Basketball players, 6 Cheerleaders, 4 Dance Team members, and 18 Pep Band members

CHESTER – The regular season is now over for all Winter Sports at CHS and Chester High School has recognized and honored all Winter Athletes the past two weeks.
In all there were a total of 34 Winter Athletes honored at two separate events. Last week 3 Senior Lady Jacket Basketball players were honored and this week 6 Senior Cheerleaders, 3 Senior YellowJacket Boys Basketball players, 4 Senior Dance Team members, and 18 CHS Pep Band members were recognized and honored.
At both events District # 139 made the following recognition statement, “We would like to take this opportunity to recognize our 2023-2024 senior winter athletes. The following group of students have dedicated themselves to academics and athletics throughout their high school careers. The Chester School District would like to honor and thank them for their loyalty and dedication to our athletic program over the past four years.”
Lady Jacket Basketball
The Lady Jackets Basketball Team held “Senior Night” last Thursday February 8 when then they hosted Sparta in the final regular-season game of the year. The Lady Jackets beat the Lady Bulldogs, 45-35.
On that night, three senior players were honored including Emma Diskey, Jazzi Merideth, and Camryn Luthy. Emma is the daughter of David and Tonya Diskey. Jazzi is the daughter of Ms. Christy Otten, and Camryn is the daughter of Bruce and Andrea Luthy.
The Lady Jackets are coached by Jeff Mott, Head Coach and Jenny Coleman, Assistant Coach. Each senior received flowers, orange and black balloons and a gift bag prepared by the coaches and fellow players.
Cheerleading
CHS had six senior cheerleaders this winter including Bethany Baughman, Lexi Eggemeyer, Dyson Helmers, Ellen McCormick, Liberty McCormick and Jazzi Merideth. Cheerleaders were honored Tuesday February 13 prior to the final YellowJacket game of the regular season vs Wesclin.
Each cheerleader received balloons, special gifts and flowers from Head Cheer Coach, Danielle Laramore, Assistant Coach, Cassy Helmers, and fellow cheerleaders.
Bethany is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mikey and Andrea Baughman. Lexi is the daughter of Jamieson Eggemeyer and Mr. David and Lisa Tindall. Dyson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Helmers. Ellen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Travis and Carrie McCormick. Liberty is the daughter of Mr. Jonathan McCormick and Mr. and Mrs. Ken and Terri Little. Jazzi is the daughter of Ms. Christy Otten. She was joined at the ceremony by Jordan Merideth.
YellowJacket Basketball
The Chester High School Boys Basketball Team had three senior basketball players including Korbin Jany, Shea Menefee, and Lucas Thompson. These three seniors were recognized and honored prior to the pre-game warm-up Tuesday February 13 when Chester hosted Wesclin.
Each senior was recognized center-court with their parents during the 2024 “Senior Night” ceremony. They received balloons and other gifts as a thanks for their dedication to the basketball program. The YellowJackets are coached by Chris Toledo, Head Coach, and Assistant Coaches Tony James, Nick Severs, Matt Korando, and Chett Andrews.
Korbin is the son of Matthew and Kasi Jany. Shea is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Heath and Cindy Menefee and Mother Tessa Menefee. Lucas is the son of Keith and Christal Thompson.
CHS Dance Team
The CHS Dance Team was honored at halftime of the CHS vs Wesclin game Tuesday February 13. The 2023-24 Dance Team had four senior dancers including Josalynn Anaya, Amanda Kennon, Kaylie Springston, and Grace Welborn.
Each senior dancer and her parents were recognized and honored center court as their names were announced. Flowers, balloons and other special gifts were presented during the ceremony.
Josalynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juan and Tera Anaya. Amanda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy and Tiffany Kennon. Kaylie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg and Amanda Springston. Grace is the daughter of Ms. Jamie Welborn.
Chester High School Pep Band
The Chester High School Pep Band, under the direction of Mr. Steve Colonel, had 18 senior Pep Band members this year who performed for most all YellowJacket Boys’ basketball games and several Lady Jacket basketball games throughout the 2023-2024 basketball season.
At halftime of the Chester vs Wesclin game Tuesday February 13 all 18 were recognized at a ceremony center court with senior pep band members and their parents present to be recognized and honored.
Senior Pep Band members included Josalynn Anaya, Bethany Baughman, Joel Buskohl, Joshua Casteel, Gavin Cowan, Chase Gilbert, Garret Hopkins, Haley Hoskin, Jessica Ixcoy-Sica, Hannah Kaempfe, Rylie McDonough, Aden McFarland, Chloe Miller, Ash Pfeiffer, Isaiah Roth, David Sullivan, Kaci Trost, and Mason Werner.
Josalynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juan and Tera Anaya; Bethany is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike and Andrea Baughman; Joel is the son of Troy Buskohl and Joyce Sternberg; Joshua is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan and Tina Casteel; Gavin is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cowan and son of Ms. Kellie Cowan; Chase is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert; Garret is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Christi Hopkins; Haley is the daughter of Mr. Jim Hoskin and Mrs. Vicki Hoskin; and Jessica is the daughter of Mr. Juan Ixcoy and Mrs. Josefa Sica.
Other senior CHS Pep Band members include Hannah, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy and Carol Kaempfe; Rylie, the daughter of Ms. Chelsie Mueller and Mr. Matt McDonough; Aden, the son of Mr. Mike McFarland and Mrs. Joetta McFarland; Chloe, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brad and Brandy Miller; Ash, the child of Marie Pfeiffer; Isaiah, the son of Sarah Roth and Grandson of Alisa Roth; David, the son of Mr. Michael Sullivan; Kaci, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Damon and Tiffany Trost; and Mason, the son of Mrs. Randy Werner and Angie Werner.
Chester High School extends great thanks and admiration for the 34 senior “Winter Athletes” that dedicated many hours of time and dedication to YellowJacket Athletics over the past four years at CHS.
