John P. Lurk

John P. Lurk of Bloomsdale, MO peacefully passed at 7:02 am January 28, 2024 at Crystal Oaks Rehab Facility in Crystal City, MO.

He was born June 8,1952 to the late Thomas W. Lurk & Lenora A. (Klein) Lurk at their home in Ste. Genevieve, MO.

John married his high school sweetheart – Linda (Drury) Lurk on October 19, 1974 at St. Agnes Church in Bloomsdale, MO.

For anyone who knew John, he was a workaholic.  He worked on his dad’s farms in MO, IL & MS.  He graduated from Valle Catholic Schools in 1970.  He then attended MO Business College in St. Louis and earned a data science degree.

Corporal John P. Lurk served 2 years active duty in the United States Marine Corp. and 4 years in the reserves (2/2/72 – 2/1/78).  While serving at Camp Lejeune, he was recognized as a riffle sharp shooter and earned a National Defense Service Medal.

He worked in the construction industry for over 50 years at Bloomsdale Excavating, River Cement, Essex Contracting and retired from Goodwin Brothers Construction Company as a Site Superintendent in 2015.  He was a very proud member of the Laborer’s Union.  He served the City of Bloomsdale as their Water Superintendent until his passing.

John was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, served on Valle Catholic Schools foundation, member of American Legion Post 554, was a scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 410 (father of three Eagle Scouts).

John was a planner, organizer, and provider.  He was a loving husband and a ‘silent teacher’.  He showed his kids how to lead.  He was a man of a few words, but SHOWED what love looked like.  He went to EVERY event that his kids were involved in (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, softball, gymnastics, track and field, turkey calling contests, gym hockey, band, football, cheerleading & birthdays).

John dearly loved his family, especially his 12 grandchildren.  He was passionate about Valle Warrior Football, USMC and spending time at Lake of the Ozarks.  He enjoyed taking daily walks, hunting, reading, gardening, farming & mowing.
