STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve County School District R-II has announced the procedures it will use to cancel school due to inclement weather.
Inclement weather is the existence of abnormal climatic conditions that create hazardous circumstances for students and employees to safely travel to and from school.
The total number of bus miles traveled daily to and from SG R-II campuses is approximately 2,251.
Below are the procedures that will be followed when it is necessary to cancel school due to inclement weather.
● Decision to Cancel School Due to Inclement Weather:
○ The decision will be made by the Superintendent of Schools or her designee.
○ The safety and well-being of students will be the primary focus of such a decision.
○ Road conditions will be checked, and the supervisor of transportation will be consulted to assist in the decision making process.
○ A decision to cancel school will be made as early as possible, with the goal to send out notifications by 5:30 a.m.
● Notification Process:
○ Employees, parents and other need-to-know community members will be notified of a cancellation through the district’s mass call notification system. Notifications will also be posted on all district social media outlets.
○ The following radio and television stations will be notified of a school cancellation: KTVI Channel 2, Cable Channels 990 and 991, B 104.3 FM, KMOV Channel 4, KSGM 980 AM, KFMO 1240 AM, KSDK Channel 5, KSGM 105.3, FM KREI 800 AM, KFVS Channel 12, KTJJ 98.5 FM
○ Please refrain from contacting school buildings, Fallert Bus Service and/or the above radio and television stations. We need to keep phone lines open so the appropriate notifications can be made as quickly as possible.
● Alternate Methods of Instruction (AMI):
○ School districts are no longer required to make up the loss of in-person school hours if the district implements an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan that had been approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
○ SG R-II has an approved AMI Plan on file with DESE and can use it to make up a maximum of 36 hours during the 2023-2024 school year.
○ New for the 2023-2024 School Year: The first two inclement weather days will be traditional snow days, and then the following five inclement weather days will be AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days before returning to traditional snow days for the remainder of any inclement weather days. After the first few snow days, we will share any information families need for AMI days.
● All 12-month employees (district office, technology, maintenance, custodians, HS secretaries, etc.) will be expected to report for work, pending weather conditions that allow for safe travel.
● The decision to cancel after-school activities and community events on SG R-II campuses will be made by 1:30 p.m. and based on existing conditions and circumstances.
