PERRYVILLE — A police chase which began in Ste. Genevieve County Wednesday morning and ended in Perryville around 9 a.m. was concluded with the capture of two individuals.
Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s office Chief Deputy Jason Schott says the driver, an area man in his 30s, was wanted on felony warrants for drugs. Deputies knew where he might be and staked out the site. Not long after he drove by and the chase was on.
The pursuit stayed on I-55 for the most part in Ste. Genevieve County but about five miles north of Perryville the suspect took the Brewer exit and led the Ste. Genevieve County deputies on a quick tour of Perry County back roads: Perry County Road 816, State Route N, State Route T and then into Perryville where he sped by the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and drove on the grass of the Perry County Nursing Home yard, and then National Guard Drive.
That’s when the driver decided to go off road into Perryville City Park, but learned quickly he couldn’t get much traction, with his car down to two rims, thanks to Perryville authorities who had used spike strips earlier. A police vehicle then struck the suspect’s car and it was over. The suspect was quickly taken into custody along with a female companion.
Deputy Schott said the man was named in a couple of felony arrest warrants for drug related charges. He wasn’t sure if the female companion will face any charges.
In addition to the Ste, Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, and the Perryville Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol also participated in police action.
