Marlene Eckert

A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2023 for 81-year-old Marlene Eckert of Rockwood, Illinois, who passed away at 6:37 pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Three Springs Senior Living and Rehabilitation, Chester, Illinois.

 

She was born October 8, 1942 in Rockwood, Illinois to the late William Clarence and Emma (nee McKenzie) Vickers.

 

Marlene married Richard Eckert on August 15, 1966 in Wood River, Illinois; he preceded her in death on December 4, 2015.

 

She is survived by a son: Clancy Eckert of Chester, Ill.; a daughter: Ginger Duty of Murphysboro, Ill.; a step son: David (April) Eckert of the state of Arizona; four siblings: Marilyn Anderson of Chester, Ill.; Milton Vickers of Perryville, Mo.; Michael (Shirley) Vickers of Hannibal, Mo.; Maida (Dan) Carson of Ava, Ill.; a granddaughter: Misty Pavey; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy Lou Pavey, a granddaughter: Tiona Pavey, a step son: Richard Eckert, Jr., a son-in-law: Kenneth Duty, four sisters: Marion Frazier, Mary Lou Fricke, Marsha Kirkpatrick and Millie Day and six brothers: Marvin, Melvin, Maurice, Millard, Muerl and Mark Vickers.

 

She had worked as a floor and scrub nurse for Missouri Baptist Medical Center where she met her husband.

 

She also worked at Gilster Mary-Lee Corporation, and as an EMT in Chester.

 

Later, Marlene worked for the Chester Senior Center.

 

Marlene was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church in Rockwood, Illinois.

 

She was also a member of Royal Neighbors until the closing of the Rockwood Chapter and was active with the American Red Cross.

 

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, Illinois.

 

A funeral for 81-year-old Marlene Eckert of Rockwood, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 at the Pechacek Funeral Home, in Chester, Illinois. The Rev. Thomas Klausing will officiate.

 

Interment will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Rockwood, Illinois.

 

Memorials may be made to Boys Town USA, Cardinal Glennon Hospital, Pleasant Ridge Church and/or to family choice.
