A message from Ste. Genevieve County Library Director Shawn Long

Hello Ste. Genevieve community and our valued library patrons,

I trust this message finds you well and full of anticipation for the year ahead. As we step into 2024, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve had together in 2023. The Ste Genevieve County Library has witnessed tremendous growth and positive transformations, all thanks to your continuous support.

In the spirit of progress, we are embarking on an exciting journey to enhance our library space even further. To achieve this, the library will be temporarily closed from January 7 to January 16. Although the doors will be closed to the public during this period, rest assured that our team will be hard at work inside.

We are taking this unusual step to engage in a thorough reorganization of our entire library. From moving and adding shelves to finalizing new office spaces and ensuring ADA compliance, we are committed to making your library experience even more enjoyable. We understand the inconvenience this may cause to our daily patrons, and we appreciate your understanding and support.

The Children’s area, which has been overflowing with books, will see the addition of more shelf space. We are addressing ADA compliance issues caused by our new office spaces, by relocating and rearranging bookshelves, and introducing new shelving and organizational solutions to create a more streamlined and efficient space.

This closure is not a decision we take lightly, as we recognize that many of you plan your visits around our library. However, it is a necessary step to ensure that, once reopened, the Ste Genevieve County Library will be back and better than ever. We are not just making changes for the sake of change; we are preparing for a significant new addition that will bring more excitement and possibilities to our beloved space.

Over the past five years, we’ve made a tradition of utilizing the month of January for such transformations. This year’s changes, unfortunately, require a temporary closure due to the nature and scale of the improvements. As we bid farewell to the holiday decorations, we are ushering in a new chapter for our library, one that promises a more organized, accessible, and vibrant space for everyone.

Thank you for your unwavering support, and we look forward to welcoming you back to a rejuvenated Ste Genevieve County Library very soon.

Warm regards,

Shawn Long
