Be a trained storm spotter, a class will be held in Chester

ST. LOUIS – The National Weather Service invites all interested persons to join thousands across the United States and become a trained storm spotter.

 

Classes are free, take roughly two hours, and are offered in-person or virtually. There is no age limit either.

 

Do you have an interest in weather and helping your community? Well, we have an excellent opportunity for you.

 

 

The National Weather Service in St. Louis, in coordination with partners across the region, is offering storm spotter classes at several locations – including one in Chester, Illinois — to prepare for severe weather season.

 

If you would like to assist your local community by becoming a volunteer storm spotter and reporting severe weather to the National Weather Service, or if you simply want to learn more about severe weather, consider attending one of our classes! Classes are normally held in the evening and last approximately two hours.

 

 

Attendees are taught the basics of thunderstorm development, storm structure, the features to look for, and where to find them. What, when, and how to report information, as well as basic severe weather safety, are also covered.

 

There will be one class in the River Region: March 21, 2024 6:30 – 8:30 pm: Chester Fire Department – 1330 State St, Chester
