PERRYVILLE – Everything you need to know about Snow Days at Perry County School District No. 32 can be found here:
District administrators and bus drivers monitor weather forecasts before and during a winter precipitation event, then drive roads in the city and county to determine if it is safe to send school buses out.
They also consider the safety of sidewalks and parking lots on campus.
If the decision is made to cancel school, the automated messaging system is used to send a text, email, and voice call to all parents.
The district will use all three contact methods for cancellations and early dismissals to reduce the likelihood that any student is left at home or at a bus stop without supervision.
The calls will be made no later than 10 pm and no earlier than 5 am.
The district also posts school closings on its Facebook page and notifies the following media outlets:
● KSGM 980 AM
● KGMO 100.7 FM
● KREI/KTJJ 98.5 FM
● KZIM/K103 FM
● KFVS-12
● KSDK-5
● FOX-2
In the event of a closure due to inclement weather, the district cancels all extracurricular activities on the first day; the situation will be reviewed for subsequent “snow days.”
The emergency plan was officially adopted by the Board of Education of Perry County School District No. 32 in a board session on October 11, 2023.
The plan will put a school bus within five miles of most of our patrons. The district must rely on parents to get their children to school or to and from the emergency bus routes. If the bus connection is some distance from a child’s home, parents should plan with neighbors and friends for a place where the child can wait for the bus in the morning and get off in the afternoon.
Even this plan cannot work immediately after a major storm. (snow, flooding, etc) If the emergency bus routes are to be used, this would be announced over our normal news release channels which are:
KFVS TV Channel 12 (Cape Girardeau),
KSGM Radio 980 AM (Perryville/Ste. Genevieve),
KREI Radio AM 800 (Farmington),
KTJJ Radio FM 98.5,
KZIM Radio FM 100.7 (Cape Girardeau);
K103 Radio FM 102.9 (Cape Girardeau),
The Republic-Monitor (www.perryvillenews.com); automated telephone service, and the District 32 mobile app; and social media platforms.
The District Transportation office will gather information as indicated (as early as possible) and report the conditions of the road to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
The District Administration will then make a decision.
This decision will be made as early as possible. Notification of no school will be made through the above system(s) to students and parents.
