Egyptian Electric seeks bright young leaders for all-expenses-paid Youth Day and Youth Tour

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. – Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association (EECA) is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the annual Youth Day to Springfield and Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Each year, EECA sponsors at least two area high school students for the unique opportunity to tour historical and cultural sites, meet with lawmakers, and witness state government in action.

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors atending a public or private high school within the Egyptian Electric Cooperative service territory or otherwise a consumer-member of the cooperative are eligible to apply.

School districts within EECA territory include Chester, Sparta, Steeleville, Red Bud, Marissa, DuQuoin, Pinckneyville, Murphysboro, Elverado, Trico, Carbondale, and Carterville.

Selected students from Youth Day will have the extraordinary opportunity to represent EECA on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. during Youth Tour.

This experience allows young leaders to gain insights into the historical and political landscape of the nation’s capital while fostering a deeper understanding of government through meetings with elected officials. For more information or to apply, interested students should visit eeca.coop.

The application deadline is February 2, 2024. The application form includes completing short summaries of the student’s school activities, civic activities, and other accomplishments, plus an essay related to cooperatives and/or our local community.

Youth Day to Springfield is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, and Youth Tour will be held June 14-21, 2024, in Washington D.C.

If you have any questions on the application or the program, please contact Brooke Guthman at (618) 684-2143, ext. 1115, or bguthman@eeca.coop. This information will be sent to school guidance counselors within our territory in early January.
