Carol Jean Hardy

A graveside service will be held for 88-year-old Carol Jean Hardy of Libertyville, Ill., formerly of Chester, Ill., who passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.

 

She was born October 31, 1935, in Murphysboro, Ill. a daughter of Wm. Russell and Orpha (nee Walter) McConkey, who both preceded her in death.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Carla (Terry) Prisk and Gayelynn (Peter) Galgano; four grandchildren: Brennan (Kelsey) Prisk, Ashley (Nicholas) Passarella, Keely (Matt) Adler and Cameron Galgano; a great granddaughter: Briar Layne Prisk; a soon to be great grandson; three nephews and countless devoted friends and neighbors.

 

She was also preceded in death by a son: Wm. Terry McConkey.

 

She grew up in Chester, Illinois and was a proud member of the Chester High School class of 1953.

 

She went on to attend Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois.

 

Carol loved her current home town of Libertyville, Illinois in which she resided for many years.

 

She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

 

She was a long time employee at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville and was very active in her community.

 

She was a member of the Condell Auxiliary for many years. After retiring from Condell you would find her volunteering in various departments of the hospital.

 

In 2014, she was inducted into the Libertyville Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for outstanding service.

 

Carol cherished her family most and loved spending time with them.

 

She was known for helping anyone she met and having a positive energetic attitude.

 

She was an avid reader, loved knitting, spending time with her grand dogs and helping care for neighboring dogs.

 

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

 

It was Carol’s wish to be cremated.

 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Mt. Summit Cemetery in Rockwood, Illinois.
