Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen gets move in date

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met last night for regular and work sessions.

City Administrator Happy Welch advised that city hall would be closed on Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year Holidays.

He reported that flooring installation was underway this week at the city hall, 165 South Fourth Street. He said the remodeled city hall would be ready for  occupancy in February and the move-in day would be Monday, February 19. The board room table and office furniture installation would take place in the second and third weeks of January.

Welch also reported that information on the proposed detention basin for the northwest area of the city would be available next month.

During the regular session, the aldermen held a public hearing on a request from Mark Buchheit for permission to allow guest lodging at 342 South Gabouri Street in a general residential district. The special use permit was later approved by the aldermen.

The aldermen approved a resolution, 2024-10, to re-establish terms for all members serving on the Ste. Genevieve Housing Authority.

A liquor license requested by Patrick Fahey for PJ’s at the Mall, 150 East Market Street was approved.

Brad Fisher appealed the decision of the Heritage Commission denying his request to replace 11 wooden windows with vinyl clad windows at 263 Jefferson Street. Brad Fisher explained that he purchased the building after squatters had been allowed to live in it. There were no utilities in the building and he said the squatters burned the wooden window sashes and trim for heat. The aldermen partially overruled the Heritage Commission by voting to allow vinyl windows on the sides of the building but required wooden windows on the front.

The aldermen reviewed and approved a bid from Donze Construction for $30,711 for the police department garage repair.

The aldermen postponed action on a bid from Garett Metal Detectors for $6,000 for a walk through metal detector for the new board room at the remodeled city hall.

A quote of $7,879 from Schulte Supply was approved for an update to the meter reading software.

The aldermen held first and second readings on the following measures:

An $18,900 agreement with Todd Faulkner Tree Service was approved for a tree removal project.

A quit claim deed and transfer of property to the Timothy C. Bauman Living Trust was approved.

A special use permit to allow guest lodging at 342 South Gabouri Street was also approved.

During the work session, the aldermen took up an invitation to participate with the Mineral Area Major Case Squad, the issue of contracting with a single trash hauler which would require residents to all have the same trash hauler, and an update on the proposed Progress Parkway residential housing development.

The meeting was shown live on Ste. Gen TV Channel 991. It is now available for viewing on the SteGenTV You Tube Channel at https://youtu.be/3IxfyBtk_AA
