Midwest CPI falls 0.2 percent

ST. LOUIS – Prices in the Midwest Region, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), fell 0.2 percent in November, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported.

The November decrease was most influenced by a 2.4 percent decline in the energy index, largely driven by lower prices for gasoline. The index for food was down 0.3 percent, while the all items less food and energy rose 0.1 percent over the month.

Over the last 12 months, the CPI-U advanced 2.9 percent. The index for all items less food and energy advanced 4.2 percent over the year, while food prices rose 2.6 percent. Energy prices decreased 8.8 percent, mostly the result of a decrease in the price of gasoline.
