While serving two tours in the Vietnam War, he was shot.

While he was home from the service, he was set up on a blind date with the love of his life, Barb.

They married in 1971, shortly before he was honorably discharged.  After being discharged, Mr. Melton and his wife lived in Ste. Genevieve for a short period and then moved to Cedar Hill to be closer to work.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara (Bennett) Melton; two children: Eddie (Ruth) Melton Jr. and Nikki (Corey) Crum; four grandchildren: Mackenzie (companion of Dustin Sites) Crum, Madison (fiancé Austin Henry) Crum, Brittany (Bobby) Benton and Margena Melton; a sibling: Verna (Craig) Wilds; sisters-in-law: Margena (Gene) Stroud and Marica (Garry) Nelson; as well as many other family members and friends.

He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Donnie Melton, Gary Melton and Vickie Davis.

He retired from International Paper after 30 years.

He was a man of faith and, with his wife, ministered to the men at Farmington Prison and went to downtown St. Louis to hand out clothing and food to those in need.

He became an ordained minister and was a deacon at Christian Fellowship Assembly.

He later moved with his family to Labadie and became a member of Central Baptist Church.

He loved the Lord, reading his bible and praying for his family and others.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing rummy with anyone that was up for a game and enjoyed playing racquetball in his younger years.

He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and telling stories of his past.
