ROLLA, Mo. – Sigma Pi’s Alpha Iota Education Foundation (AIEF) is announcing two freshmen are its scholarship program recipients for 2023. These scholarships are available to those who have graduated from high school or its equivalent and are enrolled to attend the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T).
Charlie Dickman was awarded the Richard “Rich” and Ruth Swanson Memorial Scholarship of $5,000. He is from Kansas City, Missouri, is studying aerospace engineering, and is a member of Missouri S&T’s Air Force ROTC. Dickson says the scholarship will help him focus more on his academics and allow him to work on being the best Sigma Pi member and man he can be. The scholarship was established in memory of former Alpha Iota Chapter member Rich and his wife, Ruth, for their philanthropy and generous gift to the fraternity.
Reese Newland was awarded the Dr. Richard “Dick” Miller Scholarship of $1,500. He is from Steelville, Missouri, and is studying chemical engineering. Newland says the scholarship will help him focus more on his academics in order to get the best education possible. The scholarship was established to honor Dr. Richard Miller for his service as the fraternity’s Faculty Advisor from August 1988 to June 2010, in which he provided valuable guidance and mentorship to Alpha Iota Chapter members.
“AIEF is excited to provide scholarships to both Charlie and Reese, two well-deserving incoming freshmen who are beginning their engineering studies. These scholarships honor the legacy of the Swansons and Dr. Miller, who provided so much to the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Pi and Missouri S&T,” said Phillip (PJ) Weber, Vice President of the Alpha Iota Education Foundation.
Applicants submitted an application, essay, and official transcript of high school grades. To learn more about scholarship opportunities at Missouri S&T, please visit https://sigmapi-mst.org/scholarships/.
