BLS releases Missouri Business Employment report

KANSAS CITY – The Mountain-Plains Information Office of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics today released Business Employment Dynamics in Missouri – First Quarter 2023.

 

Assistant Commissioner for Regional Operations Michael Hirniak noted these Missouri highlights:

 

  • In Missouri, from December 2022 to March 2023, private industry establishments gained 159,576 gross jobs, while losing 126,409 gross jobs, resulting in a net gain of 33,167 jobs. (See chart 1.)

 

 

  • Gross job gains represented 6.5% of private sector employment in Missouri in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the national rate of 6.2%.

 

  • Gross job losses represented 5.1% of private sector employment in Missouri in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the national rate of 5.4%.

 

  • Data are also available by industry sector. During the first quarter of 2023, gross job gains exceeded gross job losses in 10 of the 11 industry sectors in Missouri.
