PERRYVILLE — Officials at Perry County School District No. 32 reports an unloaded weapon was confiscated today (Wednesday) at Perry County Middle School.
Local law enforcement agencies were notified and responded immediately. The district is assisting with the investigation.
There were no injuries, nor threats made toward any students or staff. Because the weapon was immediately confiscated, the school was not placed on lockdown.
The student who brought the weapon to school has been referred to juvenile authorities, and the district’s discipline policy is being followed.
Assistant Superintendent Craig Hayden said that another student saw the weapon and reported it to an adult. “I commend the young person who did the right thing,” Mr. Hayden said.
The district will provide no further comment at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
