CHS says goodbye to Volleyball seniors

Senior Night 2023 featured seven Lady Jacket players at the final home game of the 2023 season

CHESTER – Wednesday October 18 was “Senior Night” at Chester High School for seven Lady Jacket Volleyball players. The scene was CHS Colbert Gymnasium on Rocky Bridges Court for the final home game of the 2023 volleyball season.

It was not only the final game of the regular season but the final regular season ever for seven Lady Jacket senior volleyball players.

Senior players included Jordan Buskohl, Alexis Eggemeyer, Ellen McCormick, Liberty McCormick, Jasemine “Jazzi” Merideth, Grace Welborn, and Mabry Wingerter.

“Senior Night” ceremonies took place after completion of the Lady Jacket Junior Varsity Match and just prior to Varsity warm-ups. All senior parents gathered on the stairway at the end of Colbert Gym and senior players awaited for their individual introductions from the locker room hallway behind shiny, golden, shimmering streamers that were hanging in the doorway.

Stadium Announcer, Steve Colonel announced, “Before we start tonight’s Varsity contest, we would like to recognize this year’s senior athletes and their parents for the contributions, dedication, and hard work to the Lady Jackets Volleyball Program.”

Colonel then proceeded to introduce the senior players in alphabetical order. Once the senior player was announced, patents met them on the baseline of Rocky Bridges Court.

They were then presented with balloons and gifts from the JV and freshmen players as well as Lady Jacket Coaches Colleen Runge, Head Coach, Alyssa Keith, Assistant Coach, and Reese Chandler, Volunteer Assistant Coach.

The first senior introduced was Jordan Buskohl, the daughter of Jason and Jodi Buskohl. For her senior season, to date, Jordan has recorded 276 kills, 18 blocks, and 52 digs. After high school Jordan plans to possibly play volleyball at John A. Logan College and then transfer to SIUE to pursue a career in Nurse Anesthesia.

Alexis Eggemeyer was the second senior to be recognized. She is the daughter of David and Lisa Tindall and Jamieson Eggemeyer. During her senior year, to date, Lexi has recorded 75 kills, 54 aces, 240 digs, and 5 blocks. Following graduation from CHS Alexis plans to play softball at Missouri State at West Plains and pursue a career in Health Sciences.

The third CHS senior Lady Jacket Volleyball Player was Ellen McCormick. Ellen is the daughter of Travis and Carrie McCormick. This year Ellen has accumulated 415 digs, 37 aces, 74 assists, and 3 kills, to date. She hopes to be able to continue her volleyball career at college after graduation from CHS.

Liberty McCormick was the Jacket’s fourth senior recognized. Liberty is the daughter of Mr. Johnathan McCormick and Mr. and Mrs. Ken and Teri McCormick. To date, for this 2023 senior season, Liberty has recorded 25 kills, 22 digs, and 2 blocks. Upon graduation, Liberty plans to go to Nursing School to pursue a career in nursing.

The 5th Chester High School Volleyball Player to be recognized was Jasemine “Jazzi” Merideth. She is the daughter of Christy Otten. Jazzi has recorded 84 kills, 22 blocks, 24 digs, and 3 assists this season, to date. After high school, Jasemine plans to pursue a career in Exercise Science at Missouri Baptist University.

Grace Welborn was Chester’s 6th senior volleyball player to be recognized at the 2023 “Senior Night” ceremony. Grace is the daughter of Jamie Welborn. During this 2023 senior season, to date, Grace has recorded 49 kills, 35 digs, and a pair of blocks. Her academic goal is to pursue a career in Accounting after high School.

The 7th and final CHS senior volleyball player to be recognized was Mabry Wingerter. Mabry is the daughter of Chris and Nicki Wingerter. So far this 2023 season, Mabry has accumulated 140 kills, 232 digs, 32 aces, and 383 assists. After high school Miss Wingerter plans to go to college where she hopes to play collegiate volleyball and pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant.

These seven young ladies had a great “Senior Night” 2023. They all played well and contributed to the defeat of the Marion High School Lady Wildcats in two sets, 25-21 and 25-19. It was a perfect ending to the 2023 regular season.
