STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met last night.
The aldermen conducted a public hearing on what the city believes to be an unsafe building at 58 South Main Street, which is located next to the Welcome Center at 66 South Main Street.
The owner of the building, Timothy Bauman, said part of the structure is actually on city property and that is why he has not maintained it. The city attorney said that is not relevant to the question at hand, which is the safety of the structure. The aldermen voted to require Bauman to bring the building into a safe status within 70 days.
The board approved the following resolutions:
Resolution 2024-01 stating intent for the Ste. Genevieve Fire Department to apply for a Missouri Department of Conservation grant of $13,610.
Resolution 2024-02 appointing Gary Smith to the Tourism Tax Commission.
Resolution 2024-03 approving a proposal from Public Safety Upfitters to purchase and install emergency equipment for the Ste. Genevieve Fire Department for no more than $5,611.
The aldermen approved the following bills:
Bill No. 4588 for the issuance and collection of special tax bills and levy special assessments aginst lots, tracts and pieces of land for sidewalk improvements. Second reading approved on a roll-call vote, 5-0-3 with Aldermen Bennett, Cleghorn and Eydmann absent.
Bill No. 4589 authorizing the city administrator to sign documents for the release of easement and transfer of property to James T. Beckerman for the property where the Blain Street water tower was located. First reading approved on a voice vote.
Bill No. 4590 a 36-month agreement with Genasys of San Diego, California for $6,885 for an emergency alert texting program. First reading approved on a voice vote.
Bill No. 4591 approving a lease purchase ageeement with First State Community Bank for the purchase of two police vehicles. First reading approved on a voice vote and second reading approved on a roll call vote: 5-0-3.
During the work session, the aldermen heard from a representative of the Ste. Genevieve School District R-II. He said the district wants to install a fire suppression sprinker system in the new early childhood facility which is being built on Maple Drive. The sprinkler system requires a six inch water main to feed the system. The existing line is a four-inch main. The district is asking the city to replace the four-inch main with a six-inch main.
The aldermen also heard that the construction of sidewalks on St. Mary’s Road will require the city to acquire easements and that request and paperwork has to follow a certain pattern regulated by the Federal Highway Administration through the Missouri Department of Transportation. Cochran, which is overseeing the sidewalk project, says they can produce the drawings and descriptions, but a second party will be needed to help facilitate the negotiated easements. An agreement with BHC LLC (Bill Hampton) will be discussed in a closed session.
The meeting was shown live on SteGenTV Channel 991 and on the SteGenTV You Tube Channel. It is now available for viewing.
