CHS Volleyball beats Okawville to close out Week-7

CHESTER – After having a great night Tuesday October 3 against Steeleville on Cancer Awareness Night, the Chester High School Lady Jackets Volleyball Team won on the road at Okawville to sweep the competition in Week-7.

Chester won Set 1, 25-16 and Set 2, 27-25 to beat the Lady Rockets for the match. In the win, Jordan Buskohl led the team in kills with nine. Maggie Caby led in blocks with two and one block assist. Elaina Lutman paced the Jackets with 10 digs, and Mabry Wingerter had the most assists with 11. Ellen McCormick also added 9 digs.

Assistant Coach Alyssa Keith said, “The girls played well!  They actually looked like they were having fun on the court. I feel like we lost that several times the past few games, so it was great to see that enjoyment return at Okawville.”

Head Coach, Collen Runge said, “We traveled to Okawville to play the Lady Rockets tonight. The Freshman Team put up a good fight but lost in two sets. The JV Team was able to secure their match in two sets for the win.”

“The Varsity Team came out really strong. We put up some big blocks and had some stellar passing. We won the first set 25-17.”

“The second set the Lady Rockets came out with a vengeance, but they were no match for the Lady Jackets! We won the second set in an exciting 27-25 battle. Our Cahokia Conference record improved to 5-2 and our overall record improved to 18-6.

Next up for the Volleyball Jackets in Week 8 will be two regular season matches, one on the road at Sparta Tuesday October 10 and a home match Thursday October 12 against Red Bud.

Saturday October 14 the Jackets will compete in the 2023 Monster Mash Volleyball Tournament at Freeburg High School.
